Digital Story 2, Version 2

Thank you for all the great ideas. I believe I incorporated most of them. I added an additional frame at the beginning as an introdcution; I faded the video audio out so it's not quite so abrupt; I tried to annunciate "path" so it sounds like English (lol); and I changed the text and background color on the credits. It's funny, because on the original the credits are on a nice sea color with a sand colored text, but it doesn't appear that way on the web at all! The one suggestion I didn't incorporate was to put the translations on the screen- I didn't do that, but I did make sure the context of the narration was enough for it to make sense. I'm at the point where I'm fussing around with it, so I think that means I'm done- or I'll fuss forever. Thanks again, guys!

Digital Story 2, Version 1

Taking a break from my adoption theme! I just got back from Hawaii, where I was lucky enough to get to watch a ceremony where they release baby honu (Hawaiian green sea turtle... an endangered species) back into the wild after raising them from birth. Very cool!! I had fun with this, but I know it could still use some tweaking. And hopefully I didn't butcher the Hawaiian too badly... LOL. Your suggestions are welcome!

Digital Story 1, Version 2

I spent a lot of time thinking, adding, removing, adding again... in the end I only made one change- to add words on the screen at certain points during the story. I had such a hard time with making changes because I think the simplicity really worked, but I ended up keeping that in one part. I agreed with the comments/suggestions to add something for visual interest to the slides. After experimenting a lot, I felt the words worked best with the story to not distract. I left the ending as is because this is a piece of a larger project. I can see how if it were just this story it would be to abrupt. Thank you all for your comments- they helped me look at different elements I may not have seen myself.

Week 4: Digital Storyboard Upgrade

Upgraded Storyboard (marked)
Upgraded Storyboard (clean)

I've attached two versions of my upgraded storyboard (links are above).  The first shows editing marks (strike out for items to remove, and blue text for items to add);  the second shows the "final" script after removing and adding the desired pieces.

Besides editing my narration, I made several changes from my original storyboard.  I think these changes made the storyboard more complete and thorough- I was aiming for a storyboard that anyone could pick up and use to complete the project.  Here are my additions:
  • director notes for the narration
  • a board at the beginning for effects that apply to the entire story
  • a title and credit planning board
  • decided on and added final images
I am still not entirely happy with the wording on the second winter scene.  If anyone has thoughts, please feel free to share!  =o)

Week 2: Picture Story (Foust)

This is my favorite candid photo of me on my wedding day (possibly ever!). I did write a rough script this time, but think the narration still feels casual and natural. I chose the guitar music because we had an acoustic guitar player at our wedding- I mentioned this in the story to tie it together. The music is from www.freeplaymusic.com and I used Audacity to add narration to the soundtrack. Everything was put together in Windows Movie Maker.

6/21: I forgot to attach my script! Sorry about that! I did not follow the the script verbatim, I just used it as a guideline when I was recording the narration. The script I used is as follows:

Kent and I have been married for 10 years, and even after all this time I wouldn’t change a thing. It was simple and small- only about 30 friends and family members were in attendance. We got married at my parents house on a huge boulder, and we hired an acoustic guitar player we found at a coffee shop to provide the music. The day was filled with laughter, especially during the garter toss. All of the men just watched it fall to the ground and Kent had to toss it again, telling them someone had to catch it! The day was perfect and I remember feeling an enormous sense of happiness as I thought about our future together building a home and starting a family.
